SAMPLE LESSON PLANS

General Music

As a student teacher at Meadowbrook School in East Longmeadow, MA, Catherine taught general music classes for grade K-2. At this placement, she worked to provide multi-modal lessons for her students in order to promote success in all learners and worked closely with other teachers within the school to accomodate exceptional learners within the music classroom. 

Instrumental Music

Catherine has had experience conducting and rehearsing many different instrumental ensembles of all levels. She has worked closely with elementary school string students during her internship with the Amherst-Pelham Regional School District. She has also conducted the University of Massachusetts All-University Orchestra, under the guidance of Ng Tian Hui. 

During her student teaching placement at the East Longmeadow School District, Catherine gained experience working with the band and the orchestra at both the high school and middle school level. 

Catherine has also begun to impletment some of the Suzuki Method into her instrumental music teaching, applying some of the tehcniques from the method into a large rehearsal setting. This was the topic of her Honors College Capstone Project. 

Music Technology

In a world that is increasingly relying on technology, it is important for students to gain experience using technolgy in the music classroom. Throughout her experience, Catherine has developed skills to become fluent in music technology including Smart Music, Reason, Soundation, Garageband and NoteFlight. 

At her secondary placement, Catherine taught both Music Theory and Music Technology classes which both utilized these programs.
